The Danish Village (or, “Denmarketting in America”)

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

What was once a transplanted enclave of traditional Danish culture evolved into a microcosm of the global tourist industry as it embraced the American Dream. In turning the camera on my hometown I found that windmill spoons and little gnomes actually do make magic - along with piñatas and postcards.

Postcards From Solvang

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

The evolution of Solvang, California is documented in a history of postcards with a high-paced polka.

This piece could be considered an animation by some, an avant-garde tourist video by others. I consider it a highspeed archive of my hometown history. It includes my childhood favorite Danish folk dance (the combat sequence), known as “The Ox Dance”.

This piece was created as part of an independent documentary project on Solvang, and featured on TurnHere.com
